Guster’s Guarantees

Do I smell…………………. a comeback???

Ladies and gentlemen, strap into your seats because we have a tied contest going into the final three weeks of the season. Seven winning weeks each (I lead 17-13 in overall picks though, just saying) and whoever can win 2 of the next 3 will be crowned the challenge champion and the loser will become an indentured servant. This is what it is all about and I am ready to grab the bull by the horns. All I have to say to Josh is this – DO NOT LET ME GET HOT!

JOSH CHALLENGES:

DEN +9 @ HOU

By far the biggest lopsided result of the weekend, the Broncos absolutely bullied the Texans in their own stadium. At its peak Denver lead 38-3 in the 3rd quarter and ultimately sealed the upset 38-24 after a few garbage time touchdowns from Houston. I’d be lying if I said that I expected this degree of an outcome but I will disclose that it was the game I most expected Josh to bite on. This one fit right into my classic principles of a letdown game for the Texans who were coming off a big win against New England the week before and likely to overlook the 4-8 Broncos who had no pressure and rookie QB Drew Lock trying to prove himself. Easy W here.

1-0 Gus

GB -12.5 vs WAS

While Denver was taking care of business with ease, all eyes were on this one to see if I would even have to worry about the late afternoon game in New England. With a lot of points to cover in this game I was looking for Washington to shoot themselves in the foot. It progressed just about as expected with the Packers keeping the Skins at arms length, needing a late put away score or a costly Washington turnover to hit the cover. To my dismay, Green Bay never produced that breakthrough play and Washington fell short only by 5.

1-1

KC +3.5 @ NE

The rubber game set up with the marquee match up of the week. Josh caught me by surprise on this one as he usually is overly cautious with his precious Patriots when it comes wagers. My feelings on this game were that Kansas City has the talent advantage and clearly the Patriots offense has been struggling to gel. I took the nice number and put it in the hands of the Mahomes to keep it close. The stakes were clearly very high in this one, as a loss would cost me my last get out of jail free card and add extra sting from a Patriots victory. After an opening drive touchdown to Edelman, I feared the Pats had solved the equation in classic fashion. Fortunately Mahomes and the Chiefs came to play, answering with 5 consecutive scores and taking a 23-7 lead into the second half. Surprise, surprise, the Patriots would not go down quietly, as a blocked punt lead to a Brandon Bolden TD and made it a 23-13 game. The Pats would get the ball back after a Kelce fumble, and from the KC 15 N’Keal Harry appeared to successfully reach the end zone at the pylon, but the officials incorrectly ruled him out of bounds at the 3. New England would be held to a field goal, making it a 7 point game. On the last opportunity to tie the game, the Chiefs came up with the big stop in the end zone on 4th down to hold off the comeback and win the game. I’m sure Josh will swallow this one like a man and not do any complaining towards the officiating, but just remember that I had 3.5 points to work with so there is no saying that they would have covered given that call was not missed. Pats are cheaters anyway and as the great Lamar Jackson likes to say- “NOBODY CARES WORK HARDER”. (Praying with all of my heart that this kid will keep NE from getting another championship)

2-1 Gus, challenge tied 7-7.
